The Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested three male mainlanders on Wednesday for two identical frauds, each time offering to sell the victim a gold necklace at a low price, showing the victim the genuine one, confirming its genuineness in a jewellery shop and swapping the genuine necklace with a counterfeit one when finalising the deal, PJ spokesman Ho Chan Nam said during a special press conference yesterday.

In the two cases, which happened late last month and earlier this month respectively, the three men cheated the two victims out of a total of HK$69,000, according to Ho.

Suspects from Hunan

Ho identified the three suspects – all from Hunan province – as a 44-year-old surnamed Li and two men surnamed Zhang aged 45 and 49. Li was the trio’s alleged kingpin. The two men surnamed Zhang are cousins.

Evidence, including counterfeit gold necklaces and bogus gold watches, is displayed in a pressroom of the Judiciary Police (PJ) headquarters in Zape yesterday.
