The government will launch a scheme which allows cabbies who do not breach any rules listed in the new taxi law – which came into force yesterday – until the end of the year to join a lucky draw, according to a statement by the Transport Bureau (DSAT) yesterday.

The programme is organised by the Transport Bureau, in conjunction with the Public Security Police (PSP), Legal Affairs Bureau (DSAJ), Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO), Consumer Council, and 15 taxi associations, the statement said, adding that the activity aims to encourage cabbies to provide their service in line with the law and improve their service quality.

According to the new law regulating the city’s taxi sector, the fines for various violations have been significantly increased, such as for refusing to pick up passengers and overcharging.
