The Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested four suspects from the mainland on Monday for membership of a gang which had cheated several pawnshops run by the same company on at least eight occasions since March, involving about HK$260,000, by pawning man-made diamond rings purporting to be genuine diamond rings PJ spokesman Choi Ian Fai said during a special press conference yesterday.

The police believe that the gang has at least five members who were still at large at the time of yesterday’s press conference.

The four mainlanders were arrested after a staff member of a pawnshop in Zape discovered that they attempted to defraud the shop with synthetic (aka lab-created) diamonds mounted on rings, according to Choi.
