Two mainlanders and a local gambler together paid more than HK$550,000 for non-negotiable chips worth HK$2.5 million in a casino in Taipa on Thursday, after which one of the mainlanders vanished with the chips, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Lai Man Vai said during a regular press conference yesterday.

In the local gambling jargon, non-negotiable chips are colloquially known as dead chips.

According to Lai, the first suspect is a 35-year-old man surnamed Zheng. He told the police that he is unemployed. The second suspect is a 34-year-old man surnamed Liu. He told the police that he works as a hairdresser. Both are mainlanders. The 37-year-old victim is a local man whose personal information was not released.
