The Lands, Public Works and Transport Bureau (DSSOPT) confirmed in a statement yesterday that the Fire Services Bureau (CB) informed DSSOPT officials shortly before 2 p.m. yesterday of an incident in which pieces of concrete appeared to have fallen off a pillar of the Macau-Taipa Friendship Bridge, and DSSOPT engineers later confirmed that it was the protective layer surrounding the concrete which has fallen off the pillar.
The statement said that the incident did not cause any structural damage to the bridge.
According to local media reports yesterday, at around 1:30 p.m. the Public Security Police (PSP) received reports that pieces of concrete were believed to have fallen off a pillar near the peninsula’s entrance to the bridge. The police called Transport Bureau (DSAT) and DSSOPT officials as well as firefighters to the scene.
