The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) announced this week that it will carry out restoration work at S. Domingos (St. Dominic’s) Church from July 27, focusing on its interior pilasters.

According to an IC statement, the repairs are slated to be completed by the end of November. The church will be closed during the restoration project, but the adjacent Treasure of Sacred Art Museum will stay open.

Construction of the church was completed in 1587, but its current structure dates back to the 17th century. The church is listed as one of Macau’s 29 UNESCO World Heritage sites. The Roman-Catholic church underwent major renovation in 1997 after termites had severely damaged its structure.
