Visibly aggrieved local resident Chan Kok Sam handed a petition to the Electoral Information Centre at the Public Administration Building in Rua do Campo yesterday morning, urging the Electoral Affairs Commission for the Chief Executive Election to investigate whether former Legislative Assembly (AL) president Ho Iat Seng is qualified to run in next month’s chief executive election.

Chan, a retired police officer, told reporters outside the Public Administration Building that he sent a letter to the Legislative Assembly in 2014, referencing a suspected criminal offence related to his daughter’s medical incident, and calling for a criminal investigation.

According to local media reports, Chan’s daughter had suffered from Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) in 2001. After receiving treatment at the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre (CHCSJ), the patient’s condition worsened resulting in a brain bleed putting her in a vegetative state. She passed away in early 2014 aged 25.
