A 62-year-old local woman reported to the police yesterday that she lost 1,997,000 patacas in an online dating scam involving three male suspects, the Judiciary Police said in a statement.
According to the statement, the woman got scammed by the three men whom she got to know from a dating website between January and last month, in which they became friends and even “lovers”, despite not having met any of them face to face, but only communicated through instant messaging.
The victim was later asked by each of the three men to lend them money for various reasons, such as helping them their business, or that they needed to pay handling fees for gifts they allegedly sent to her and which were seized by customs.
