Seeing Coloane’s coast defiled with rubbish brought in on the tide is currently a common scene, Coloane Coast Cleanup organiser Gilberto Camacho told The Macau Post Daily on Saturday, adding that “volunteers gathered to clean up the rubbish on the coast line with the aim of preventing it returning to the sea on the next tide”.
According to a statement by the Marine and Water Bureau (DSAMA) on Saturday, the waste on Cheoc Van Beach had significantly increased two to three-fold on that day compared to weekdays due to the south wind blowing.
The bureau hired a cleaning services company to clean up the rubbish on Cheoc Van Beach and dispatched a boat to collect the garbage near the beach, and 1.5 tonnes of waste on the beach and 1.8 tonnes of rubbish from the sea were collected on Saturday.
