The Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested a man this week for embezzling a client of a local bank out of HK$2.5 million when he was its IT manager, PJ spokesman Lai Man Vai said during a special press conference yesterday, adding that his wife was also arrested as his suspected accomplice.
According to Lai, the 29-year-old local man, surnamed Ng, told the police that he worked as the IT manager of the bank where he embezzled the money for over two years and that he now works for another local bank. His 29-year-old wife, surnamed Iong, told the police that she’s unemployed. She was also taken to a police station for questioning before her formal arrest.
Lai said the case was reported in the middle of last month by a bank in the central district, according to which the personal information of four of its clients was tampered with by someone, and the account of one the clients showed suspicious stock transactions.
