The government will sign an authorisation allowing power utility CEM to construct and manage the city’s utility tunnels, according to a chief executive order published in the Official Gazette (BO) yesterday.

According to Wikipedia, a utility tunnel is a passage built underground or above ground to carry utility lines such as electricity, steam, water supply pipes, and sewer pipes.

The order pointed out that CEM is experienced in managing and constructing utility pipes, adding that transferring this role to the company is beneficial to the city. Therefore, the government decided not to put out a public tender and instead directly authorised CEM for the job, according to the order.
