A student in his twenties fell for a credit-for-sex scam on Friday, losing a total of 28,504 patacas, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokeswoman Lei Hon Nei said during in a regular conference yesterday at the PJ headquarters in Zape.

According to Lei, the victim is a local student. The spokeswoman did not reveal whether he is a university student or secondary school pupil.

According to Lei, the victim befriended a female online on Friday afternoon. She later told the victim through a social messaging application that she was offering sex services in exchange for an 800 pataca gift card. Both negotiated and then struck a credit-for-sex deal. They planned to meet at the entrance of a residential building in the northern district on Friday night, Lei said.

According to Lei, the victim went to meet the female who, however, did not show up but instead sent him a text message, telling him to go to a convenience store and purchase the 800-pataca gift card first as “prepayment” for the sex deal. He then sent her a picture of the gift card number and PIN number through his smartphone.

Shortly afterwards, the victim received a call from a man who told him to buy additional gift cards, and so he did.

Lei said that the victim bought gift cards worth 28,504 patacas in 11 instalments for the female on Friday, adding that the two never met in person.

The victim finally realised he had been scammed. He reported the case to the police who yesterday were still investigating the scam, Lei added.
