The government is starting to collect opinions and suggestions from the public today on a report of the ongoing environmental assessment for a tidal gate – on the river between the west coast of the Macau peninsula near Barra and Wanzai in Zhuhai, the Lands, Public Works and Transport Bureau (DSSOPT) said in a statement yesterday.

According to the statement, the local government has commissioned China Water Resources Pearl River Planning Surveying & Designing Company Limited and the Scientific Institute of Pearl River Resources Protection to jointly carry out the environmental assessment of the project. The two entities have completed a draft report.

Residents can submit their opinions and suggestions until September 10 by letter, fax and email to the bureau or any of the two entities tasked with carrying out the environmental assessment, the statement said. Residents can access https://www.dssopt.gov.mo/zh_HANT/home/information/id/221 to check details on the project and the environmental assessment work, in the Chinese and Portuguese languages. The report drafted by the two entities that can be downloaded from the website is available in Chinese only.

According to the statement, the first phase of the public opinion collection process for the project’s environmental assessment was carried out in April, when four opinions were received.

The second phase, which starts today, aims to collect public opinions on the recently-completed environmental assessment report, according to the statement.
