It’s Mid-Autumn Festival today when the moon is the fullest and brightest, pulling families and friends together for a meal with mooncakes and lanterns.

The festival each year falls on the 15th day of the eighth month of the lunar calendar, when the moon is the biggest. It is also considered the second grandest festival after Chinese New Year.

Symbolic

The “round” moon means completeness and reunion in Chinese, and as with festive food that goes with Chinese traditions, they are mostly symbolic.
