Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) President José Maria da Fonseca Tavares said at the weekend that his bureau will no longer allow people to set up tents outside the camping area at Hác Sá Beach Park when it is fully occupied.
Tavares made the remarks while speaking to reporters on Saturday on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the 50 Caritas Macau Charity Bazaar at Nam Van Lake Nautical Centre. The two-day charity event ended on Sunday.
In a statement jointly issued by the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and the Municipal Affairs Bureau on Wednesday, MGTO said that “it is not illegal” for travel companies to arrange for members of tour groups to stay at campsites, adding that camping “is also a kind of tourism experience”. In the statement, the Municipal Affairs Bureau said that its inspectors did not find any violations by those staying at the campsite in Hác Sá Beach Park during the mainland’s seven-day National Day Golden Week holiday period.
