The police arrested a Hong Kong man for insulting three male Judiciary Police officers and hitting them when he was asked to be quiet and show his ID at the Public Prosecution Office (MP) on Monday, PJ spokesman Ho Chan Nam said during a regular press conference yesterday.

According to Ho, the 53-year-old suspect surnamed Chong told the police that he is retired.

According to Ho, Chong is a suspect in a case in which a female gambler was threatened on Sunday night. He was gambling in a casino in Zape when he verbally threatened the female gambler.

The victim reported the threats to the police that night and Chong was picked up by PJ officers the same night in the same casino, Ho said.

On Monday, Chong was transferred to the Public Prosecution Office for further questioning. While he was waiting there, he told the police that he felt ill and needed to be taken to hospital, the spokesman said, adding that while Chong was waiting for the ambulance he lost his temper and started a big argument.

The spokesman said that Chong had been asked by the police officers to keep quiet on the premises of the Public Prosecution Office. He reacted to the request by insulting the PJ officers such as calling them “dogs” and using other swear words, the spokesman said.

According to the spokesman, Chong had been asked to hand his ID documents to the police and to be quiet. He refused to do so and when police were about to handcuff him, Chong punched and kicked the three PJ officers, who sustained multiple slight injuries, Ho added.

Chong has been transferred to the Public Prosecution Office (MP) for further investigation.

According to Ho, the suspect faces possible arraignments on aggravated bodily harm, threatening behaviour, resisting arrest and disobedience charges.
