For a bit of fun in the run-up to the festive season The Macau Post Daily thought it would be entertaining to name yesterday’s lucky escapee from the slaughterhouse.
The brown bovine made a dash for freedom yesterday morning from the abattoir and while he was quickly recaptured, Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) President José Tavares announced during a special press conference yesterday afternoon that Nam Kwong Group Co. Ltd., which had imported the runaway from the mainland, expressed its willingness to give the “lucky cow” to IAM for adoption.
The crux of the problem is that Macau’s celebrity cow has no name. As he is set to be displayed to the public at “optimised facilities”, according to Tavares, he surely needs to get a cool name.
His case is similar, to a certain extent, to a baby bear that was rescued from the cooking pots of a gourmet restaurant in the late 1980s and passed away last year after delighting residents and tourists alike at his purpose-built enclosure in Flora Garden. The public quickly named him Bobo (“Darling” in Cantonese) after his dramatic rescue. Bobo’s specimen will go on display in the first half of next year, according to the Municipal Affairs Bureau.
