Govt to pay smart terminal system provider 150 patacas per month for each taxi

The company which has been granted a contract for the installation, operation and maintenance of all Macau taxis’ officially required “smart terminal system” – consisting of various devices such as a meter, a Global Positioning System (GPS), an audio recorder and a video recorder – will charge the government 150 patacas for each taxi per month, the Transport Bureau (DSAT) announced this week.

The smart terminal system is to be installed in every taxi, based on the new law regulating the city’s taxi sector which came into force in June.

The bureau has decided to grant the company – New Leader Information Technology (Macau) Limited – the contract after assessing bids submitted by seven companies, according to a DSAT statement on Wednesday.
