Macau’s first space exploration satellite was named Macau Science 1, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Alexis Tam Chon Weng announced yesterday at the opening ceremony of an aerospace exhibition.
During the opening ceremony on the MUST campus in Taipa, National Space Administration (CNSA) Vice Administrator Wu Yanhua announced that the CNSA will set up the Macau Space Exploration and Science Center to assist deep space exploration cooperation between China and the international community, and also to facilitate cooperation between space exploration institutions in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA).
The satellite, which will be launched in 2021, is the first of its kind to probe the South Atlantic Anomaly (SAA), a region of reduced magnetic intensity where the inner radiation belt is at its lowest altitude.
