José Maria Dias Azedo, Chao Im Peng and Cheong Weng Tong were sworn in yesterday as judges of the Court of Final Appeal (TUI), Court of Second Instance (TSI) and the presiding judge of the Collegiate Bench of the Court of First Instance (TPI) respectively, according to a statement by the TUI Secretariat.

Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On officiated at the swearing-in ceremony which was attended by other government and judicial officials such as TUI President Sam Hou Fai and Judicial Officers Recommendation Commission Chairman Lau Cheok Va. The ceremony was held at 12 p.m. in the building in Nam Van which houses both the Court of Final Appeal and the Court of Second Instance.

The judges were chosen by the Judicial Officers Recommendation Commission earlier this year, after which the Chief Executive issued an administrative order to appoint the judges. The appointments were published in the Official Gazette (BO) on December 2.
