President Xi Jinping urged the principal officials of the fifth-term government of the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR), who were sworn yesterday, to demonstrate a sense of mission.
Xi made the remarks while meeting with leading officials representing respectively the public administration, the legislature and the judiciary of the MSAR government.
“Now is a critical period for Macau to build on its past successes and further advance its development,” Xi said, expressing a five-point hope to the SAR government officials.
Xi called on them to heighten their sense of nation, always do big picture thinking from the angle of national development and security, and conscientiously safeguard the nation’s sovereignty, security and development interests.
The MSAR government officials were urged to heed the fundamental purpose of wholeheartedly serving the people and take a down-to-earth approach to improve people’s wellbeing.
Xi expressed hope for the officials to rise to the challenges and push ahead with solving deep-seated problems that arise in the course of Macau’s economic and social development.
He called for steady growth of officials’ ability to handle complex situations and prevent risks.
The officials were also told to promote integrity.
The following nine principal officials and the MSAR’s chief public prosecutor were sworn by Xi at the Asian Games Dome yesterday morning: Secretary for Administration and Justice André Cheong Weng Chon, Secretary for Economy and Finance Lei Wai Nong, Secretary for Security Wong Sio Chek (reappointed), Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Ao Ieong U, Secretary for Transport and Public Works Raimundo do Rosário (reappointed), Commissioner Against Corruption Chan Tsz King, Commissioner of Audit Ho Veng On (reappointed), Unitary Police Service Commissioner-General Leong Man Cheong, Customs Service Director-General Vong Man Chong, and Public Prosecutor-General Ip Son Sang (reappointed). – Xinhua, MPD
