Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) Deputy Director Ricky Hoi Io Meng said yesterday that most of the opinions collected during a survey on the possible implementation of a tourist tax propose one ranging between 100 patacas and 200 patacas.
Hoi made the remarks while speaking to reporters at Macau Tower on the sidelines of a press conference about the office’s annual Chinese New Year float parade. The upcoming float parade will be held on January 27 (the third day of the Chinese New Year) in the peninsula’s central district and on February 1 (the eighth day of the Chinese New Year) in the northern district.
The office launched an online survey in May to collect opinions from residents on the possible implementation of a tourist tax – an “entry fee” to be paid by tourists. The one-month online survey ended on June 20. The online questionnaire was intended for Macau residents aged at least 18.
