A manager was arrested for allegedly hacking another’s online banking account in order to cheat the victim out of HK$170,000, Judiciary Police (PJ) Lai Man Vai said in a special press conference yesterday.

According to Lai, the suspect surnamed Lam told the police that he works as a manager in a VIP room of a local casino. The personal information of the male victim was not released by the spokesman. Both are local residents, Lai said.

According to Lai, the case happened between August and December 2018. When the victim discovered that his online bank account had been hacked and money had been withdrawn 40 times without his authorisation, he reported the case to the police in July last year.
