The suspect, who told police that she felt dizzy after killing a woman and injuring two others with a knife in an Areia Preta housing estate on Sunday, does not suffer from an acute mental illness, Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre Medical Director Lei Wai Seng said yesterday.

On Sunday evening, a woman in her 30s from the mainland went looking for a man living in the estate. After being told the man was not at home, the woman barged into flat with a knife and attacked the man’s 62-year-old mother, his 32-year-old wife, and his five-year-old son. His daughter managed to escape from the scene to seek help.

When the police subdued the suspect at the scene, she said she felt dizzy, and was taken to the public hospital together with the three people she had attacked.

The man’s wife, surnamed Hao, was pronounced dead that evening at the hospital.
