Leaders of int'l bodies praise, back China's fight against virus outbreak

  BEIJING - In recent days, many leaders ofinternational organizations have spoken positively of, and supported, China'sefforts to battle the novel coronavirus outbreak through various means.

   International Olympic Committee (IOC) PresidentThomas Bach said he fully supports, highly appreciates and respects the effortsmade by the Chinese people, adding that the Chinese people are fighting theepidemic in a proactive and orderly way.

   Noting that Chinese President Xi Jinpingpersonally commands and deploys the prevention and containment efforts, a factwhich heightens the IOC's confidence, Bach said the IOC fully believes thatpreparations for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics will not be affected, andChina will once again welcome world athletes to compete.

   Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) General Secretary Vladimir Norov commended the Chinese government for takingdecisive and effective measures, especially its openness and transparency inreleasing information about the epidemic, adding that it not only reflectsChina's high sense of responsibility for the lives and health of its ownpeople, but contributes greatly to the development of public health in theregion and the world.

   He expressed the belief that the Chinesepeople, with their diligence, courage and wisdom will win the fight against theepidemic in the shortest possible time.

   Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission Moussa Faki Mahamat, speaking on behalf of the AU, expressedsolidarity with China in the fight against the epidemic, adding that the AUwill remain firmly united with China at this difficult time.

   Other leaders of internationalorganizations, including World Bank Group President David Malpass, AsianDevelopment Bank (ADB) President Masatsugu Asakawa, Asian InfrastructureInvestment Bank (AIIB) President Jin Liqun, New Development Bank (NDB) President Kundapur Vaman Kamath, Boao Forum for Asia Chairman Ban Ki-moon andExecutive Director of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) HenriettaFore, commended the Chinese leaders and government for decisive and assertivemeasures against the epidemic, adding that they stand firmly with the Chinesegovernment and people and are ready to provide assistance.

   The foreign ministers of Thailand, Indonesia,India, Iran, Ethiopia, Burkina Faso, Equatorial Guinea, Gambia, Sierra Leoneand other countries also commended the Chinese leaders' decisivedecision-making, correct command, swift and resolute measures, openness,transparency and responsible attitude, expressing their belief that China willsecure a victory against the epidemic.
