Macau-based Portuguese bank BNU said in a statement yesterday that it has donated 100,000 patacas to Catholic social service organisation Caritas Macau “to tackle the epidemic COVID-19 outbreak among the most vulnerable population of the territory”.
According to the statement, BNU CEO Carlos Álvares handed the donation to Caritas Macau Secretary-General Paul Poon Chi Meng. The statement did not say when and where the donation was handed over.
The statement added that the bank also has opened an account to collect donations to support the anti-COVID-19 activities of Caritas, “such as the purchase of medical materials and to help the ongoing efforts to provide the best care and protection to avoid the spreading of the virus.”
The funds collected through the account (No. 9016477976) will be transferred to Caritas Macau, the statement said, adding that both BNU and Caritas “are very grateful for the support of the community”.
Caritas Macau has been supporting the community since 1951.
