Hong Kong-listed Sands China Ltd. has announced the reappointment of Wilfred Wong Ying-wai, a former Hong Kong civil servant and ex-deputy to the National People's Congress (NPC) in Beijing, as its president.
The US gaming company announced Wong's reappointment in a statement to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange yesterday.
According to the statement, Wong, 67, "will provide overall leadership of the company and will focus on the long-term goals and strategic objectives of the business in Macau and the Greater Bay Area" (GBA), which comprises Macau, Hong Kong and nine cities in Guangdong province. His appointment took effect yesterday.
The statement pointed out that Wong had been Sands China's president and chief operating officer (COO) since November 2015. According to the statement, Wong was an NPC deputy between 1997 and 2013.The statement noted that Wong is the chairman of the Hong Kong Film Development Council and the Hong Kong Arts Development Council.
Sands China owns five of Macau's 41 casinos.
Meanwhile, the statement also announced the appointment of Grant Chum Kwan Lock as COO and the appointment of Dylan James Williams as general counsel and company secretary with effect from yesterday. According to the statement, Chum, 44, had been chief of staff since March 2015 and is also a director of a number of the company's subsidiaries. The statement pointed out that he was named Asia’s stock-picker of the year by the Financial Times in 2011.
