A local man was caught driving under the influence (DUI) and without a licence, as well as using his twin brother’s ID card, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Ho Ka Kit said during a regular press conference yesterday.

The suspect, a 34-year-old surnamed Ng, works as a croupier (dealer) in a local casino.

According to Ho, Ng was caught at a roadblock set up by Public Security Police’s (PSP) in Avenida de Vencenslau de Morais early Monday morning.

Ho said that Ng was riding a motorcycle when he was stopped at the roadblock. Ng smelt of alcohol and failed to show the police his driving licence. Ng was then given a breathalyser test, the result of which showed that his alcohol concentration was 1.62 grammes of alcohol per litre of blood.

Upon further investigation, the police discovered that Ng was driving his brother’s motorcycle without a licence and that he gave false information about his identity to the police as he used his younger twin brother’s identity card, according to Ho.

The police contacted Ng’s brother who said that he had given his ID card to Ng the previous day to purchase government-issued facemasks from a pharmacy, but he did not know that Ng was riding his motorcycle or that he showed his ID card to the police, according to Ho.

Ng was transferred to the Public Prosecution Office (MP) and faces charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving without a licence, making a false statement and using another person’s identity document.

The handout photo provided by the Public Security Police (PSP) yesterday shows a PSP officer escorting the suspect (front, right) to a police vehicle en route to the Public Prosecution Office (MP) on Monday.
