The Macau Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM) was ranked 14th among the world’s best universities for hospitality and leisure management from QS World University Ranking, the public tertiary education institution said in a statement yesterday.
According to the “QS World University Rankings by Subjects 2020” – which was released yesterday, IFTM was ranked 14th worldwide, 2nd in Asia (after the Hong Kong Polytechnic University – the 7th in the world) and 1st in Macau, among higher education institutions in hospitality and leisure management, the statement said.
The statement pointed out that it was the “highest position” achieved by the institute since the ranking service began covering the subject – hospitality and leisure management – in 2017.
For the 2020 ranking for hospitality and leisure management, the publisher QS Quacquarelli Symonds Ltd. considered a total of 1,636 institutions around the world, the statement noted.
Last year, IFTM was ranked 33rd in the same subject ranking whilst 1,346 institutions were surveyed by the same publisher. The IFTM statement described this year’s ranking as a “remarkable achievement”.
The rankings by subject from the QS World University Ranking have been released each year since 2011. The ranking criteria consider an institution’s “academic reputation, reputation among employers, citations per academic paper, and a metric for measuring the productivity and impact of the work published by each institution’s team of scholars and researchers,” the statement noted.
