The number of confirmed novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) topped 3 million this afternoon, the worldometers.info reference website reported.

According to the real-time statistics service, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases stood at 3,003,392 at 4:45 p.m. (Macau time) today.

The number of COVID-19 deaths amounted to 207,096, some 26.7 percent of them in the US (55,415). The US accounted for 32.8 percent (987,322) of the world's confirmed novel coronavirus disease cases.

Macau has 45 confirmed COVID-19 cases, almost all of which have been classified by the local Health Bureau as imported. No novel coronavirus disease deaths have been reported in Macau. Unlike Hong Kong, Macau has been spared a community outbreak of the highly infectious disease.

Virtually all pedestrians in Macau are wearing facemasks which are mandatory to enter public administration premises and casinos. Public transport (buses, taxis, light rail) passengers and drivers are also required to wear facemasks.

Macau confirmed its first COVID-19 case on January 22.
