Jiangsu artist shows ‘Twisted Landscapes’

An exhibition entitled ‘Twisted Landscapes’ by renowned Jiangsu artist Zhang Zhengmin displays traditional Chinese ink artwork combined with contemporary art. The event is organised by Albergue SCM and sponsored by the public Macau Foundation (FM), according to a statement by Albergue SCM.

According to the statement, Zhang was born in Pei county of Jiangsu province in 1962. He is a graduate and postgraduate from the Department of Chinese Painting of the China Academy of Fine Arts, majoring in Chinese figure painting in 1989 and 2000 respectively. Zhang is now a professor and master’s degree programme adviser at Nanjing Normal University and director of the Art Museum of School of Fine Arts of Nanjing Normal University.

The exhibition is part of Macau’s ongoing Cultural Cooperation and Exchange Programme with the mainland. The exhibition showcases 22 works of Chinese ink on paper, and Chinese ink and mixed media on paper in an artistic interpretation of Zhang’s masculine glance at the world and his imagination and reflection on contemporary China, according to the statement.

Zhang’s artwork expresses not only an integration of tradition and modernity, but also the combination of the Eastern and Western cultures, according to the statement.

The exhibition runs until May 31 and opens daily from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. except Monday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at A2 Gallery of Albergue SCM in 8 Calçada da Igreja de São Lázaro. Admission is free.

Albergue SCM is owned by the Macau Holy House of Mercy (SCM). The gallery is a former hospice (“albergue”) for “old ladies”. 

Visitors are required to wear a facemask and have their temperature checked when entering the venue.
