A local man on Thursday took advantage of two movers busy moving goods by driving away a motor vehicle that both had parked in Rua Cinco do Bairro da Areia Preta, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Choi Iok Kin said in a regular press conference yesterday.
The man later told the police that he had been drunk at that time and claimed the only thing that he could remember was that he drove the vehicle away, Choi said. The suspect is a local man in his forties surnamed Wong. He told the police that he is jobless.
Choi said the two movers told the police when they were moving goods at 7 a.m. that day, they parked their vehicle nearby and did not remove the keys. At about 7:43 a.m. they saw a man suddenly getting into the vehicle and then driving away. The two men chased after the vehicle and managed to stop the vehicle after about 50 metres, where they told him to get out. During the dispute, patrol police officers happened to be in the area and intervened.
According to Choi, the police officers smelt that Wong reeked of alcohol and conducted a breath test on him. The test showed that Wong’s alcohol concentration was 2.59 grammes of alcohol per litre of blood, confirming the offence of driving under the influence. Wong claimed that he could not recall the incident, but he confessed to DUI, according to Choi.
Choi said after the incident the two movers contacted their superior who told them that the company would not take legal action.
Wong was transferred to the Public Prosecution Office (MP) on Thursday, facing a DUI charge, according to Choi.
