About 6.6 percent of 715 respondents who identified themselves as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or intersex (LGBTI), or questioned their sexual identity or gender, said that they had suffered violence from their intimate partner, according to findings of a survey conducted by activist group Rainbow of Macau.

Key members of the group including gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender ( LGBT) rights activist Jason Chao Teng Hei, who is the group’s co-founder, held a press conference to announce the findings yesterday at the Adult Education Centre run by Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEJ) in Iao Hon.

The survey was conducted between 27 March and 10 April. Only people who usually reside in Macau and said they were gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or intersex, as well as those questioning their gender identity or sexual orientation, were accepted to take part in the survey. A total of 800 respondents answered questionnaires online during the period, and 715 of them were valid.
