The Public Security Police (PSP) received a report at 8:20 p.m. yesterday about a fight on a public bus at a bus stop in Avenida do Almirante Lacerda near the Red Market, according to a PSP text message last night.

According to a preliminary investigation, a male passenger in his forties reeking of alcohol was upset about a local bus driver in his fifties who let passengers get off through the front door, which hindered him getting on the bus, according to the message.

Normally, passengers are not supposed to get off through the front door.

The two men ended up quarrelling noisily and getting into a fight. According to a video clip circulating on social media, the passenger appeared to have attacked the driver and even ripped the latter’s orange uniform shirt to the navel. The video clip also showed that the incident happened on a Barrier Gate-bound bus of the No.1 route.

Both told the police that they had sustained injuries and were taken to the public Conde S. Januário Hospital Centre for treatment. The police have launched an investigation into the case.
