A Vietnamese non-resident worker was arrested early this week for attacking a tenant with a cleaver when he was viewing a flat, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Choi Ian Fai said during a regular press conference yesterday.
The 40-year-old suspect surnamed Tran told the police that he had worked as a cleaner in Macau for about five years.
According to Choi, Tran works for a cleaning company in Taipa on weekdays and recently had to move flats. He was informed by a fellow Vietnamese about a room in a flat that was to be sublet, and they went together to view the flat in Rua Três do Bairro Iao Hon on Sunday afternoon.
The victim from the mainland, who is in his thirties, and two women were in the flat at that time. The trio complained that Tran was too noisy and that they were being disturbed. The victim and Tran ended up quarrelling and Tran suddenly grabbed a cleaver with an over 10-centimetre-long blade from the corridor, and attacked the victim who was injured at the corner of his left eye. Tran then fled the scene. The victim called the police and was taken to hospital for treatment, requiring seven stitches, according to Choi.
Thanks to CCTV footage, the police were able to track down Tran in Areia Preta district and arrested him on Monday near the area’s Triangle Garden. Tran told the police that he was impulsive and admitted attacking the victim.
Tran was sent to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) on Tuesday, facing charges of aggravated injury and possession of a prohibited weapon, according to Choi.
