The Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) said in a statement yesterday that it is promoting a paid internship “career experience” scheme for local university graduates.

According to the statement, the government is paying close attention to young  people’s employment prospects, and in order to let university graduates gain some career experience through internships and strengthen their career competitiveness and employment opportunities, the bureau is promoting this scheme.

The scheme will cooperate with local companies through three-month-long internships, the statement said.

Participating companies are from various sectors, such as public utilities, banking, and leisure, the statement underlined.

The companies will offer posts related to engineering, information technology (IT), customer services, catering, human resources, procurement, finance, facility management and operations, the statement noted.

The internship scheme consists of more than 1,800 places, and applicants must be university graduates who are local residents, the statement said.

Applications start today

The application period starts today until midnight on July 6, and the bureau will announce the short-listed candidates on its official website on July 9, the statement noted.

Applications can be made at the bureau’s official website: www.dsal.gov.mo.

The internship scheme will be carried out in two batches, in July and August.

The details of the short-listed candidates will be forwarded to participating companies for interviews, and the first batch of internships will start in late July.

The statement did not elaborate on whether applicants can apply for internships in both batches.

During the internship, the participating companies will either pay 8,000 patacas or 50 patacas per hour to each intern per month, and the interns will be covered by insurance, the statement noted.

The bureau will offer career-related assistance to short-listed interns in preparation of their internships, the statement underlined.
