A couple were arrested at home for taking and buying drugs online, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Lai Chio Hong said during a regular press conference on Monday.
The 29-year-old male suspect is surnamed Leong. His 25-year-old wife is surnamed Lo. Both told the police that they are jobless.
According to Lai, the Judiciary Police had obtained a court order to search the couple’s flat in Rua de Cinco de Outubro on Thursday. PJ officers detained the couple and seized drug-taking paraphernalia and bags containing drug residue.
Leong confessed that he was taking drugs and owns the drug-taking paraphernalia. He told the police that he had purchased drugs for 1,500 patacas recently by contacting the seller through smartphone software. The drugs were delivered directly to his home. PJ officers found Lo’s behaviour abnormal and the couple were taken to the public Conde de S. Januário Hospital Centre for drug tests. Both tested positive for methamphetamine.
Lai said that the Judiciary Police would continue to investigate the source of the drugs
The couple have been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing charges of the illegal use of, and trafficking in narcotic and psychotropic substances, as well as possession of drug-taking paraphernalia, according to Lai.
