Hong Kong-listed Macau gaming operator Sands China said in a statement that it hosted a seminar on last month’s “two sessions” yesterday – the annual sessions of the National People’s Congress (NPC) and the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), as well as the “One Country, Two Systems” principle.
According to the statement, the seminar’s “goal was to help participants develop an in-depth understanding of the spirit of the NPC and CPPCC sessions, and of ‘One Country, Two Systems’, and to examine how these ideas can be implemented in Macau.”
The statement underlined the participation of three guest speakers: Ho Sut Heng, a local deputy to the NPC and president of the Macau Federation of Trade Unions (Gung Luen); Tina Ho Teng Iat, vice-chairwoman of the Committee for Liaison with Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and Overseas Chinese of the National Committee of the CPPCC, and president of the Women’s General Association of Macau (Fu Luen); and Kevin Ho King Lun, a local deputy to the NPC and president of the Industry and Commerce Association of Macau.
According to the statement, around 300 people attended the seminar, including management team members and young people. Zhu Hong, deputy director-general of the Economic Affairs Department of the Central People’s Government Liaison Office in Macau, attended the seminar as a guest of honour.
Ho Sut Heng suggested in her remarks that Macau cooperate with Hengqin to further promote tourism. Tina Ho encouraged the participants to enhance their competitiveness so that they can grasp the opportunities provided by the Greater Bay Area (GBA) project. Kevin Ho suggested that Macau should better utilise the GBA resources to promote its economic diversification.
Sands China President Wilfred Wong Ying Wai, who chaired the seminar, said: “It is crucial that our team members fully understand the direction of national policy, as the destiny of our nation and Macau are intertwined.”
