Several representatives of the Macau Family Reunion Federation will submit a petition to the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Hong Kong this afternoon, Lei Iok Lan, president of the federation, said yesterday, adding that the petition is addressed to National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee Chairman Zhang Dejiang, who will start his three-day visit to Hong Kong today. Lei talked to The Macau Post Daily in a tent they put up during the day in Largo do Senado. Their daily protest began there on March 2, calling for the government’s response to the members’ long-standing demand that their grown-up mainland-born children be allowed to move to Macau.

Claiming that local officials are not willing to listen to the federation’s demand, Lei, a mother of two adults in the mainland, said she hoped Zhang will help her and her fellow federation members. She said all of the representatives, herself included, will come back to Macau right after their petition.
