The Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) passport is ranked 34th in the most recent international passport index by Henley Passport Index, offering visa-free access to 144 countries and regions, according to a report by public broadcaster TDM yesterday.
According to the Henley Passport Index official website (www.henleypassportindex.com/passport), Japan’s passport holders are granted visa-free access to 191 countries and regions, which ranked the country 1st place in the world.
According to the same website, Singapore held the 2nd place in the ranking, with visa-free access to 190 countries and regions, followed by Germany and South Korea in the 3rd place with access to 189 jurisdictions each.
The Chinese mainland’s passport is ranked in the 70th position, with visa-free access to 74 countries and regions. The passport issued by the Taiwan authorities is ranked 33rd offering visa-free access to 146 countries and regions.
The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) passport is ranked 19th, with visa-free access to 170 countries and regions.
Portugal’s passport has visa-free access to 186 destinations and ranked in 6th place.
Afghanistan is ranked last, 109th, with visa-free access to only 26 countries and regions.
According to the website, the Henley Passport Index is the original ranking of all the world’s passports according to the number of destinations their holders can access without a prior visa.
The ranking is based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), which maintains the world’s largest and most accurate database of travel information enhanced by continuous research by the Henley & Partners Research Department.
