A man was arrested early this month for damaging a car often “inconveniently” parked in a car park in Rua Central da Areia Preta, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesperson said in a regular press conference on Friday.

The suspect, who was arrested on July 4, is a 50-year-old local resident.

According to the spokesperson, a car owner reported to the police recently that someone had damaged his vehicle, causing an estimated loss of 1,500 patacas. The victim told the police he discovered that the boot had been scratched when he went to the car park to get his car.

Thanks to CCTV footage, PSP officers tracked down the suspect and told him to report to a police station on July 4. Under questioning, the suspect said he was “dissatisfied” with the car because the way it used to be parked made it “inconvenient” for him to enter and exit the car park. He used a key to scratch the boot.

The suspect has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a charge of causing property damage.
