Eight limited edition Bearbrick toys, or styled as Be@rbrick, will form part of a pop-up installation at The Promenade Shops at Galaxy Macau in Cotai.

This is the second time the collectible toy designed and produced by the Japanese company MediCom Toy is teaming up with local fashion and lifestyle multi-brand store WF Fashion, according to a statement from Galaxy Macau yesterday.

As a result of the collaboration, eight new Bearbrick co-branded originals have been created for the BE@RBRICK MACAU 2020 pop-up installation taking place from August 13 to September 13.

The eight Bearbrick co-branded designs include Faith Connexion, MM6 Maison Margiela, Moschino, Neil Barrett, Palm Angels, Philipp Plein, UM Junior and the second Macau exclusive edition from the widely popular WF Fashion x MY FIRST BE@RBRICK B@BY.

According to Wikipedia, the name Bearbrick is derived from the fact that the figure is a cartoon-style representation of a bear and that it is a variation of MediCom’s Kubrick design. The ‘@’ sign in the place of the letter ‘a’ is a visual device that is a part of the Bearbrick brand, and as such, a trademark of MediCom Toy.

The first Bearbrick figure was released in 2001 as a free gift to visitors at the World Character Convention 12 in Tokyo. The standard size is seven centimetres high, which is referred to as 100% Bearbricks. Other Bearbricks are named for their size relative to the standard: 50% are four centimetres high, 70% are five centimetres high, 400% are 28 centimetres high, and 1000% are 70 centimetres high.

The MY FIRST BE@RBRICK B@BY in 100% and 400% is priced at 1,700 patacas, and the 1000% is priced at 5,000 patacas.

Loyal fans of Bearbricks can register online from July 29-31 to be eligible to purchase reserved merchandise, and the draw results will be announced on August 4, the statement said.
