The last of Macau's 46 COVID-19 patients, a 57-year-old local Filipino, was discharged from hospital today, a spokesman for the Macau Health Bureau (SSM) announced during a regular press conference by the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre.
According to Alvis Lo Iek Long, a clinical director of the public Conde de S. Januario Hospital Centre, the Philippine national, who is a local resident, started today a 14-day recuperation period at an isolation facility in Coloane.
The patient was diagnosed with COVID-19 shortly after arrival in Macau from Manila via Hong Kong International Airport on June 25. He was the only confirmed novel coronavirus patient among the 1,767 people who arrived via Hong Kong's airport by special ferry in Macau. The special ferry link set up by the Macau government a few weeks ago was discontinued earlier this week. Normal ferry links between Macau and Hong Kong have been suspended for months.
Macau's first COVID-19 case was confirmed on January 22. Unlike Hong Kong, Macau has been spared a community outbreak. The Macau Health Bureau has classified 44 of the 46 cases as imported, while the remainder have been classified as "connected to imported cases".
