The world's number of confirmed novel coronavirus disease cases went beyond 15 million today, according to worldometers.info.

The number of COVID-19 cases worldwide stood at 15.1 million at 4 p.m. (Macau time), with 619,812 deaths, or 4.1 percent of the total number, the real-time statistics reference website said.

Confirmed COVID-19 cases in the US exceeded

4 million for the first time today, reaching 4.028 million with 144,958 deaths.

About 26.6 percent of all cases in the world were confirmed in the US, which accounted for 23.3 percent of the world's novel coronavirus death toll.

Of the world's 213 countries and territories with confirmed COVID-19 cases, only three have more than one million each: the  US, Brazil (2.16 million) and India (1.19 million).

Macau, which has a population of nearly 700,000, has recorded 46 COVID-19 cases since late January. All novel coronavirus disease patients have meanwhile been cured and discharged from hospital. Foreign nationals without a residence permit are barred from entering Macau. Unlike Hong Kong, Macau has been spared a COVID-19 community outbreak.
