Hong Kong today posted the city's 16th coronavirus-related death, the government announced.

The victim was a 74-year-old man who died at United Christian Hospital.

The man had been a resident of an elderly care home in Tsz Wan Shan at the centre of a recent outbreak. He was admitted to hospital on July 9, and his conditions worsened with his renal and liver functions deteriorating rapidly before he passed away shortly before 1 p.m. today.

Most of the COVID-19-related deaths in Hong Kong so far involved elderly patients.

Macau has confirmed 46 COVID-19 cases since January 22. All patients have been cured and discharged from hospital.

The world's COVID-19 death toll stood at 636,978 at 6:45 p.m. (local time) today, when the total number of novel coronavirus disease cases in 213 countries and territories amounted to 15.67 million, according to worldometers.info
