Shen Beili, after heading the Foreign Ministry Commission in Macau for two years, took up her new post as a vice-minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee (IDCPC) this month, according to a statement on the IDCPC website.

The statement said that Shen assumed the post of vice-minister of the IDCPC this month, after serving as Foreign Ministry commissioner in Macau since July 2018.

An informed source told The Macau Post Daily today that Shen's posting was a "well-deserved promotion," pointing out that her professional career started at the IDCPC in 1985. "She did a great job in Macau," the source said, asking to not to be named.

Shen, who was born in Shanghai in 1963 and holds a master's degree, was director-general and assistant minister of the Beijing-based department before her posting to Macau two years ago. She worked in a senior position at the Chinese embassy in London between 2014 and 2016.

The department founded by the party in 1951 is headed by a minister and includes four vice-ministers and two assistant ministers.

According to the IDCPC website, the “department will strive for a peaceful and stable international environment favourable to China's development in the new century, thus making fresh contributions to safeguarding world peace, promoting common prosperity and advancing the cause of progress of mankind.”

Shen's successor at the helm of the commission in Macau remains to be announced by the central government.
