Macau's Health Bureau (SSM) said in a statement this week that is has ordered the immediate recall of JUC Spray Dressing from the market.

According to the SSM statement on Wednesday, the bureau has been notified by the importer of the product that the Burkholderia cepacia complex (BCC) could possibly be found in  lot number 1909042. Therefore, the statement said, the manufacturer requested that the lot be recalled.

The bureau urged all importers, hospitals, clinics and pharmacies to recall the product immediately. The statement pointed out that the product has been legally imported and distributed in Macau by public and private health care providers. The statement urged anyone who used the spray to phone 83905151 during office hours for "the necessary follow-up" measures.

According to the product's instructions, it is used as a physical antimicrobial dressing. It is manufactured by NMS Technologies Co. Ltd. in Nanjing.

Hong Kong's Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health (DH) said in a statement on Tuesday that it is investigating a cluster of BCC infection affecting five renal patients. The department urged members of the public not to use JUC Spray Dressing for wound care because it may be contaminated by bacteria.

According to Wikipedia, BCC is an opportunistic human pathogen that most often causes pneumonia in immunocompromised individuals with underlying lung disease.
