MGM recently launched a series of programmes to cultivate employees’ historical and cultural knowledge as part of MGM’s effort to promote the city’s heritage.

The programmes are to mark the 15th anniversary of the inscription of the Historic Centre of Macau on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The series featured a seminar co-organised with Macau Polytechnic Institute (IPM), guided tours of the Historic Centre supported by Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), plus a practical e-learning course, attracting a total of nearly 300 employees.

MGM hopes that its staff could get acquainted with the city’s history, so that they could guide visitors from around the world to take in its heritage. Such an initiative would also help MGM better relate the stories of Macau and promote cultural tourism.

Guest speaker of the seminar IPM Acting Director of School of Humanities and Social Sciences Lam Fat Iam said that while the heritage sites have attracted people from around the world to explore to city, local citizens particularly the younger generation should also be inspired to understand more about Macau’s history and culture.

For the guided tours, participants visited historic structures such as Holy House of Mercy, Dom Pedro V Theatre, Sir Robert Ho Tung Library, St. Joseph’s Church, Lou Kau Mansion and IAM Building, during which they gained a deeper understanding of the Historic Centre.

Meanwhile, MGM eAcademy launched the “Must-sees in the Historic Center of Macau” programme earlier this month that features 10 videos for staff members to know more about the city’s historic buildings anytime, anywhere.

Having joined both the seminar and the guided tour, MGM Arts & Culture Coordinator Toni Wong said that she was particularly impressed with the Mandarin’s House.

“It [Mandarin’s House] underwent a restoration of almost 10 years, which retained the basic features of a rare family complex in Macau. As a younger generation here, we are so fortunate to have a glimpse of these traditional residences,” she said.  – mgmpr
