The government has announced that it has rebooked the 300-room Golden Crown China Hotel, which is located opposite the airport in Taipa, as a “quarantine hotel” from Saturday.

Betty Fok Wai Lan, who heads the Destination Marketing Department of the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO), made the announcement during Friday’s regular Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination press conference.

Fok also announced that a section of the Sheraton Grand Hotel in Cotai, one of the government’s “quarantine hotels”, will return to its normal hospitality role no later than August 14, after all people have completed their 14-day quarantine and medical observation there. The section of the Sheraton Grand hotel comprising 2,000 rooms is officially known as a “special isolated area”.

Currently, there are three government-arranged “quarantine hotels” – the two hotels and the 298-room Pousada Marina Infante hotel in Cotai.

There were 12 “quarantine hotels” at the local COVID-19 peak in late March.

The section of the Sheraton Grand hotel had returned to its normal hospitality role in April, before the government rebooked it again as a “quarantine hotel” in early June.

The Golden Crown China Hotel returned to its normal hospitality role in late April, after all those who completed their 14-day quarantine and medical observation had checked out.

During Friday’s press conference, Fok said that as the government believes that the number of those who will need to undergo quarantine will gradually decrease, it has decided not to continue using the section of the Sheraton Grand hotel as a “quarantine hotel”.

Macau has not reported a new COVID-19 case for 37 days.
