A Taiwanese man hired by a Hong Kong gang was arrested yesterday for selling drugs in Macau, Judiciary Police (PJ) Choi Ian Fai said at a special press conference yesterday.

The 39-year-old jobless suspect surnamed Lin had lived in Shenzhen for a long time. He entered Macau via the Barrier Gate checkpoint on Saturday.

According to Choi, the Judiciary Police received a tip-off recently that a Hong Kong drug-trafficking gang had hired a Taiwanese man to sell drugs in Macau.

In the case busted yesterday, the gang wrapped Ice in a piece of tin foil to avoid X-ray detection, hid the drugs in an mini electric stove and sent them in a parcel by express delivery to Macau.

According to Choi, PJ officers identified Lin and arrested him outside an inn in the city centre early yesterday morning, seizing 12 packets of Ice weighing 12.56 grammes hidden in a cigarette packet, with an estimated street value of about 42,000 patacas. PJ officers found the electric stove in guestroom of the inn where he stayed.

Under questioning, Lin admitted to drug trafficking and confessed that he worked for a Hong Kong drug-trafficking gang because he was hard up.

He told the PJ officers that each time after receiving a parcel sent to Macau, he would hide the drugs in a concealed place and then send a picture of the place to the buyer’s smartphone to pick up them up.

He received a parcel on Tuesday and got ready to sell the drugs according to the gang’s instructions. He told the police that he had sold three packets of Ice so far and that the drug money was collected by senior members of the gang. Lin told the police that he earnt 200 patacas for each packet he sold.

According to Choi, the Judiciary Police are tracing the source of the drugs and looking for the gang’s senior members.

Lin was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) yesterday, facing drug trafficking charges, according to Choi.
